Introduction to Service-Learning Workshop for Community Partners

Overview

The Community Partners workshop is designed to provide individuals who work or volunteer with community organizations with a basic introduction to the KIDS service-learning model. The workshop will also help community organizations determine what they can do to initiate conversations with schools, teachers and students about possible service-learning projects.

Goals and Outcomes

Participants will leave this workshop with a clear definition of service-learning, numerous project examples, ideas for getting started with a class, and suggestions for building a strong partnership between their organizations and schools.

Participants will:

• understand the difference between the KIDS model and other community-oriented educational experiences
• learn about a variety of service-learning projects and see the benefits of service-learning
• learn the steps in a KIDS model service-learning project
• understand how to start working with a class on a service-learning project
• learn about the structures and policies that help sustain community-school partnerships over time (full-day session only)

Two hours to full-day workshop designed for community partners new to our service-learning model.
