Project Citizen Annual 2010 State Showcase
Students from Windham Middle School, Windham, Maine were recognized at the awards ceremony as this year's oral hearing winners with their project, Team 21. On May 7, 2010 KIDS Consortium was host to the annual State Showcase held at the State House in Augusta, Maine. Middle school students gathered to share their public policy service-learning projects with one another and to adult policy-makers. During the public viewing of projects, each group of students displayed portfolios and binders highlighting their research and documentation. Each participating class worked for several weeks examining a local public policy issue by studying the impact of the problem on the community. They evaluated alternative solutions to the problem, proposed an agreed-upon public policy solution, and created a political action plan to enlist local or state authorities in adopting their proposed policy. Statewide nearly 500 students from across Maine participated in the 2010 We the People: Project Citizen Maine program. Approximately 100 students participated in the showcase at the State House. 2010 Participating School Districts:Boothbay Region Elementary School - Grade 8Teachers: Cordelia Chase and Nick Scott Calais Middle/High School - Grade 7Teacher: Jay Skriletz Cape Elizabeth Middle School - Grade 8Teachers: Evan Solender, Terese Roberts, Tabitha Eastman Holbrook School - Grade 8Teacher: Amy Stevens Lyman Moore Middle School - Grade 7Teachers: David Hilton and Matt Pringle Windham Middle School - Grade 6Teachers: Shelly Cook and Kate Berry Special thanks to:
