Service-Learning Institute for Educators: Information and Registration

Summer 2010 Schedule coming in January 2010

Read testimonials from past participants...

Discover the steps in creating a quality service-learning experience!

The Institutes will be interactive and collaborative, with experienced practitioners sharing their creativity and expertise. Participants will develop project ideas and practice strategies integrated with curriculum requirements and assessment models in order to build a collaborative environment in the classroom, help students reflect, and celebrate accomplishments. Have fun experimenting with the KIDS award-winning service-learning model. Mandatory attendance is expected at each of the four days. Institute participants will be able to:
  • articulate the components of the KIDS model of service-learning and how service-learning differs from community service, and other models of community-learning
  • plan and implement a high quality service-learning project for diverse learners using the tools and strategies found in the well-known KIDS as Planners Guidebook
  • build a collaborative environment in the classroom by experiencing one in this institute and reflecting upon strategies used
  • advocate for service-learning based on its impacts on students, teachers, and communities
  • build partnerships and utilize school and community resources in the process of planning and carrying out service-learning projects
  • understand the importance of reflection and facilitate reflective activities that build upon student learning styles
  • develop a service-learning plan that integrates curriculum and assesses local and state standards
